The final five weeks

April 30, 2007 · Leave a Comment

We’re in good shape as we head into the final five weeks of school. Here’s an overview of what we’ll do:

Mondays: Read a chapter (Chap. 36 today) and do the vocabulary and Thinking Critically

Tuesdays: Finish theĀ  bookwork and work on the business plan

Wednesdays: Continue work on the business plan

Thursdays: Study QuickBooks

Fridays: Play the business simulation games or do catch-up work (chapters or business plan)

That should see us through until the end of the year. Oh, The last two days of regular class and the day of the final, we’ll present our business plans. It’s the culminating work and will be worth 20 percent of your final grade.

Getting Ready for the Market Analysis Section

April 16, 2007 · Leave a Comment

As you know, I like the contents of our textbook. And as we approach the Market Analysis section of your business plan, we should read Unit 9 in our textbook. It’s entitled Information Management. The two chapters, 28 and 29, are Marketing Research and Conducting Marketing Research. That just about hits the nail on the head.

As usual, do the Vocabulary and Thinking Critically sections at the end of each chapter, and submit the finished Word docs to the Unit 9 folder on the file server, ROP 27.

Thanks, and don’t forget to read all of the sidebars and special sections.

The Business Plan: Self-Analysis

April 10, 2007 · Leave a Comment

For the purposes of the business plan, let’s assume you’re more like 25 years of age, with a set of accomplishments including education, training, and work experience. So, you get to engage in a little fantasy based on a likely reality: that is, a “you” later in life based on what you might hope or expect to accomplish that would lead to your being able to become an entrepreneur. It’s best to keep this grounded in reality, so that you’re, in a way, examining a path you should follow to get to a life dream.

Now, you should put this in both your PowerPoint – with mostly headings and bulleted lists, etc. – and your actual business plan done in Word. You should base it on the business-plan outline on p. 640 in the book, particularly section D. You should also read the section on p. 641 on Self-Analysis.
