Be good to the substitute and do your work…

…which is to read all the chapters in Unit 7 and 8 and submit all the vocabulary drills at the end of each chapter, as well as all the “Thinking Critically” questions. That may seem like a lot, but you can do it. If you don’t finish, that’s okay, as long as I get a report that all of you appeared to stay busy.

You’ve got three whole days, so just plug along and get the work done. This way we can start to develop our business plans beginning in March, instead of waiting until the last minute in May.

Be good to the sub. He or she is being very nice to help us out. I’ll be in touch with the sub, who’ll be able to check your work to see how you’re all progressing. See you when I get back from…

Orange County, that is...

…County, that is.

Designing a print ad

February 15, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Early ad for radio tubes

Your next project is designing a print ad for your company. Read chapter 20, pp. 364-366. and also visit Ad*Access, a website with many examples of print ads. And absolutely visit Principles of Print Advertising before to get too far in your project.

Your ad should be:

  • Half a magazine page. Figure out what that means.
  • Full color.
  • Using all elements of print, including copy (words), graphics (pictures), composition (how it’s put together) and style.
  • Think about font choices, graphics choices, “message,” “image,” and everything you wish to convey (meaning the idea you want to get across to your ad’s viewer).

Use the Internet to find ideas. Surf for advertising sites with examples. I found “effective print ads” to be great keywords to search with. Try your own.

Ask me questions. Let’s be done by Friday.

Be nice to your sub and work quietly

February 5, 2007 · Leave a Comment

This is easy:

  1. Work on your Promotional Plan PowerPoint presentation. Make it really complete and good.
  2. If you’re sure you’re done with it, fill in the time playing the Retail 2.0 game. Otherwise, don’t waste your time
  3. Do it quietly! I know you will. Thanks. See you tomorrow.
